From ambition to action: Paving the road to climate justice at COP29

A series of special thought pieces published by APRI in the run up to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The series is edited by Dr Grace Mbungu.

The world's attention is on Baku, Azerbaijan, where the 29th Conference of Parties (COP29) will take place from November 11th to 22nd. A key goal of the Azerbaijan COP Presidency is to renew the global focus on climate finance as a critical enabler and transformative tool, turning climate ambitions into concrete actions through emission reductions and adaptation efforts, and by addressing loss and damage to achieve climate justice.

While it has been acknowledged that the climate crisis will have significant impacts on both people and the planet, its consequences disproportionately affect the poorest and most vulnerable, who have contributed the least to its causes.

This year’s contributions to APRI's COP thought series acknowledge these inequalities and call on COP29 delegates to take decisive actions on climate finance, technology and youth employment, climate justice and governance, emission reduction, and gender inequalities to advance climate action and achieve a just social order.
