Background
Nigeria has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 while pursuing economic diversification, industrial development, and sustainable growth. As global demand for critical minerals accelerates due to the energy transition, Nigeria is increasingly positioning its mineral resources as strategic assets to support industrialisation, strengthen economic resilience, create jobs, and enhance competitiveness in emerging clean-energy value chains.
Realising these opportunities requires strong institutions, effective coordination, evidence-based policymaking, investment mobilisation, and robust stakeholder engagement. It also requires ensuring that critical minerals development contributes to a just, inclusive, and sustainable pathway for national development.
As part of the project Advancing Nigeria's Green Industrialisation Through Minerals, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), with technical and implementation support from the Africa Policy Research Institute (APRI) and funding support from the Ford Foundation, will convene a high-level stakeholder forum to facilitate dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among key actors across Nigeria's critical minerals ecosystem.
The forum will provide an opportunity for policymakers, industry leaders, development partners, civil society organisations, researchers, and other stakeholders to discuss the role of critical minerals in advancing Nigeria's climate, industrialisation, and economic transformation objectives, while identifying practical pathways for collaboration and action.
The Event
As global demand for critical minerals accelerates in response to the energy transition, Nigeria is positioning its mineral resources as strategic assets to drive green industrialisation, strengthen economic resilience, create jobs, enhance competitiveness in emerging clean-energy value chains, and support a just and inclusive transition that delivers lasting benefits for communities.
Realising these opportunities will require strong institutions, effective coordination, evidence-based policymaking, responsible investment, and sustained stakeholder engagement. To support this effort, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), in collaboration with APRI – Africa Policy Research Institute, with support from the Ford Foundation, will convene the High-Level Stakeholder Convening on Advancing Nigeria's Green Industrialisation Through Critical Minerals.
The convening will bring together senior government officials, private sector leaders, development partners, investors, civil society organisations, academia, and other key stakeholders to examine global critical minerals trends and geopolitical developments, explore opportunities for Nigeria, and strengthen dialogue on governance, investment, beneficiation, local value addition, sustainability, and collaboration.
The discussions will help identify practical pathways for strengthening Nigeria's critical minerals ecosystem and positioning the country to capture greater value from emerging clean-energy value chains while advancing green industrialisation and sustainable economic transformation.
