David Omata

David is a program manager, policy analyst, and researcher with over seven years of experience leading public and private projects in policy, energy, climate change, and sustainable development. He has a strong track record of driving impact, with recognized contributions to SDG implementation through innovative policy models and published research.

He is one of 16 young researchers selected worldwide for the 2025 cohort of the Alexander Von Humboldt Climate Protection Fellowship in Germany, for which APRI - Africa Policy Research Institute is hosting him.

David is a senior research associate with Nextier and currently serves as the thematic lead for environmental sustainability and climate change at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) Community of Youth Practice.

He is an Alumnus of the Hydrogen and PtX training by Agora Energiewende, an EU-ECOWAS scholar for Sustainable Energy, a recipient of the Chinese Government Scholarship Award, the President’s Award from Tongji University, the Best International Students’ Volunteers Award from Tongji University, an SDGs/NYSC meritorious awardee, and a two-time award winner at the International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability.

David obtained his first degree in Biological Sciences from Kogi State University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from City College School of Post Graduate Studies, an MEng in Environmental Science and Sustainable Development from the UNEP Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development in Shanghai, China, and an MPhil in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
