François Sennesael is the EU Senior Fellow within the Geopolitics and Geoeconomics Programme at APRI. Based in Brussels, François brings a decade of experience working at the intersection of diplomacy, public policy, and geopolitical risk advisory. He holds a DPhil in Politics and an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford, Lady Margaret Hall. He has also served as a Visiting Researcher at Sciences Po and an Adjunct Lecturer at both Oxford and Sciences Po.

Prior to joining APRI, François built an extensive track record in international affairs, serving with the United Nations, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Crisis Group, Médecins Sans Frontières, and the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce. His work has spanned both major diplomatic hubs and complex field environments, with experience in Uganda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
