African Public Opinion: International and Regional Trade, Global Realignments and Climate Change

APRI, Afrobarometer CEO Dr Joseph Asunka and German political foundations connect public opinion data with policy strategy on AfCFTA and trade, migration, superpower competition and climate adaptation.

 Oct 2, 2026 - 09:00 - 11:45 Event LocationBerlin
Background

Against the backdrop of current geopolitical realignments, this session focuses on findings from Afrobarometer’s 2026 flagship report, which examines African citizens' perspectives on cross-border issues and shifting global orders. Discussions will center around four core thematic areas: Trade (including the movement of goods and people and the AfCFTA), migration intentions and attitudes towards migrants, superpower competition, and climate change and adaptation. Designed as a Chatham House-style exchange, the session aims to bridge empirical data with policy insights to foster deeper dialogue among experts, policymakers, and practitioners.

The Event

Following ongoing collaboration and expert exchanges on African-European relations, this special PXA session brings together the APRI team, Afrobarometer’s CEO Dr. Joseph Asunka, and representatives from German political foundations’ Africa desks as a Chatham House rules chat.
