Eszter Szedlacsek
Research Fellow

Apart from her role as a Research Fellow at APRI, Eszter is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a Marie Skłodowska–Curie Fellow within the European Joint Doctorate ADAPTED. Her doctoral research focuses on the political and institutional dynamics that shape how global climate and development regimes influence national pathways for poverty alleviation and climate action, with particular attention to SDG1 in sub-Saharan Africa.

Her recent scholarship explores the governance of critical minerals and the politics of a just transition, with publications appearing in Extractive Industries and Society, Global Environmental Politics, and Environmental Research Letters. This work reflects her broader interest in how critical mineral governance, climate policy, and development prospects intersect both within African contexts and in global supply chains.

Eszter also brings extensive experience as a policy analyst and consultant, having contributed to applied research and policy design for international organizations, think tanks, and academic institutions. She has worked with the European Parliament’s Greens/EFA Group for Tamás Meszerics MEP, and has supported initiatives of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, OSCE ODIHR, the Global Public Policy Institute and the OECD. She holds a master’s degree from Central European University (CEU) and the University of York, where she specialized in European Public Policy.

This dual background in European public policy and African development politics enables her to bridge regional perspectives and engage with debates on sustainable development from both ends of the policy spectrum.
