Explainer

Renewable energy refers to sources such as wind and solar that are replenishable and therefore not finite. Currently, non-renewable energies such as fossil fuels dominate the energy system. These have negative effects on the environment and are responsible for many greenhouse gases. The energy transition, which is underway in many countries including in South Africa, is an attempt to shift to renewable energy.
