Climate "Literacy"

Climate literacy is often used to describe individuals who understand the science of climate change or Western concepts surrounding climate change. True climate literacy creates an interplay between science and local and indigenous knowledge to highlight the relationship between climate and humanity – this interplay speaks of a climate consciousness or intelligence that acts as a lens used by climate intelligent individuals when working against climate impacts through century old practices and strategies. As narratives around climate change continue to develop, concepts of climate literacy consider the multiple facets of climate causes and impacts and how they are understood, experienced and acted upon in different contexts.
