Big tech companies are at the moment focused on breaking into the African market. The continent’s young software engineers are also drawing foreign technology companies to the region. But are these companies complying with local labor laws? From Twitter’s unceremonial layoff of its Accra staff to allegations of Meta’s exploitative work conditions in Kenya, Dr. Olumide Abimbola explores the labor issues plaguing big tech alongside guests: Josiah Eyison, Kofi Yeboah and Cecilia Värendh Månsson.

Josiah Kwesi Eyison is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of the iSpace Foundation and Chairman of the Ghana Hubs Network. In addition to his work helping the development of the Ghana Startup Act and Social Enterprise Act, Josiah led the development of a Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Charter that provides a guideline and resources for organizations to operate with more equitable and inclusive practices.

Dr. Cecilia Värendh Månsson is the CEO / Founder of TalentUp Africa, an enterprise with operations in the US and Africa with the goal to help solve the global tech talent crisis by unleashing opportunities for African talent.

Kofi Yeboah is a program officer with Mozilla foundation. He researches Digital Inclusion and Al Development in Africa. He is also a contributing writer for Global Voices.
