Background
In 2022, the African Union and European Union agreed on a common vision for a renewed partnership for sustainable prosperity for both continents as part of the Global Gateway Strategy. That partnership has intensified, as Europe turns to Africa to meet some of its energy needs in light of the war in Ukraine and the subsequent risks to European energy security. Africa accounts for thirty per cent of the critical minerals needed for the global energy transition. Today, shifts in global geopolitics are hinting at the need for a new set of principles to guide both bilateral and multilateral relations including Africa-Europe relations.
Event Objectives
This event will examine how Africa-Europe relations can be restructured to encourage true mutual benefits that can benefit energy and climate goals across both continents.
