APRI - Africa Policy Research Institute in close collaboration with the Centre for Climate Change and Development, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (CCCD-AEFUNAI) Nigeria, and the Department of Climate Change (DCC), in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigeria is hosting a one day workshop to launch the report on Locally-led Adaptation (LLA). The report is a result of the Climate Change Adaptation: Strategies, Initiatives, and Practices project, implemented by APRI with CCCD-AEFUNAI and DCC. The project aimed to understand the status, challenges and opportunities of climate change adaptation in Nigeria, with a particular emphasis on LLA.

The workshop serves as a platform for policymakers and diverse stakeholders to examine critical issues related to climate action and adaptation in Nigeria. Its objectives include raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of LLA practices and their significance in Nigeria's response to climate change. Additionally, the workshop aims to identify gaps and opportunities in current climate action strategies while facilitating discussions on the integration of LLA into policy frameworks and development plans. The event will also be an opportunity to:

  • Share the various scientific products of the research project focusing on climate action in relation to the implementation of the NDC in Nigeria;
  • Engage in discussion with diverse stakeholders to draw insights on how to strengthen climate action in Nigeria and beyond;
  • Strengthen collaboration between diverse stakeholders and policy makers;
  • Generate interest and support for scaling up LLA initiatives through enhanced resource allocation and institutional support.
